Cliburn Concerts kicked off the season with a spectacular 50th Anniversary Gold Medalists Concert & Celebration on September 6, 2012, at Bass Performance Hall. Van Cliburn made a surprise appearance to thank supporters and was met with a prolonged standing ovation. Four Cliburn gold medalists -Ralph Votapek (1962), André-Michel Schub (1981), Alexander Kobrin (2005), and Haochen Zhang (2009 )-then joined the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Miguel Harth-Bedoya onstage for an extraordinary concert of concerti. Afterwards, patrons were invited outside for a festive street party. The celebration was capped off as the four soloists appeared on the balcony in a shower of confetti.
