Piano Lessons

Piano Lessons _1The Cliburn has always been committed to fostering a love and understanding of classical musical in young students and since 2005 has offered piano lessons to select Fort Worth ISD elementary school students identified as having a strong interest in the subject. The Cliburn provides the necessary keyboards, lesson books, and instructor, while the schools facilitate practice time either before or after the school day for each young pianist. Students in the second grade begin the weekly lessons, continuing until they graduate from elementary school upon the completion of fifth grade.

The Cliburn continued the after-school piano lessons program in the 2011-2012 school year with new students and new schools. Thanks to a generous pledge from JPMorgan Chase Foundation, a fresh group of young pianists were selected to participate in the program over a four-year period. In August 2012, these students, now in third grade, continued with a second year of lessons eager to expand upon the skills attained.

For Mr. Jose Cubela, the student's instructor, working with these students proves continually rewarding: "I consider these students part of my family and each has a special gift to offer. It is amazing to see them develop over the years, and my wish for them is that they always keep music in their lives, both continuing with their studies and being inspired to attend concerts."
