The Fourteenth Competition is off and running with the Big Six at the helm! These six chairmen oversee all aspects of the Competition and a 1,200-person volunteer force. Without this unique structure and the support of these special people, it would not be possible to produce a competition of this caliber. The chairmen will work through summer 2012 filling up their committees and building their team for 2013.
Maureda Travis is chairing the housing committee for the first time after serving on this committee for three previous competitions. She has been a Cliburn volunteer since 1997 and was also a board member during her term as president of the Fort Worth Piano Teachers Forum. Her experience and expertise makes her the perfect person to oversee and coordinate each host family and their newest family member--a 2013 competitor.
Kathryn Laughlin is returning for her second competition as chairman of the Gift Shop. Her keen eye and attention to detail makes merchandise reflect the spirit of the competition. Kathryn has been a board member for since 2006 and is currently on the strategic planning committee, ready take the Cliburn into the next phase of its mission.
Kim Darden is an experienced volunteer and is serving her second term on the board and as secretary this time around. She is also a member of the cabinet. For the 2013 competition she is chairing the entertainment committee for the first time. From the Opening Dinner to the Closing Reception, Kim will oversee hospitality for the jury, competitors, patrons, and Official Guests.
Scottie Bartel has served on the board since 1981 and has chaired the facilities committee for the past four competitions! Her vast experience and dedication gives her a unique passion and love for the foundation and its programs. Scottie represents the heart of the Cliburn volunteer and has given to its success unselfishly since 1977.
Shannon Ray returns to chair production/logistics committee for fourth time! She oversees every detail for each venue and event and streamlines the running of the Competition. Shannon has served on the board since 1990 and always keeps the Cliburn a priority as she volunteers her time and expertise in many areas. She is currently on the cabinet and strategic planning committee as well.
Dana Porter is chairing the public relations committee for the first time as eagerly as she has many Cliburn committees in the past 10 years! She first became involved through the Junior League in 1997 and joined the board in 2002. Dana brings fresh ideas and maintains the caliber and quality this committee requires.
