FORT WORTH, TEXAS-Subscriptions to the Thirteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition (Cliburn 2009), to be held May 22 to June 7, 2009 at Bass Performance Hall, will go on sale this Friday, August 29, 2008 at 9:00 a.m.

Don't miss this opportunity to hear some of today's rising stars first hand!

Following worldwide audition recitals before a respected five-member jury, thirty of the world's most promising young pianists will travel to Fort Worth in spring of 2009 to compete in what is considered to be "the most prestigious classical piano contest in the world" (Chicago Tribune).

Each artist will perform a fifty-minute program over five days and ten sessions in the Preliminary Round. The anticipation and excitement continue to mount, as just twelve musicians progress to the four-day, eight-session Semifinal Round. In addition to sixty-minute recitals, audiences will hear competitors perform in piano quintets with one of today's preeminent ensembles, the Takács Quartet. Just six of these young artists will advance to the Final Round, where they will perform a concerto with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, led by world-renowned conductor Maestro James Conlon, and also play an additional fifty-minute recital.

"We receive inquiries through the Internet for subscriptions every day," says Sevan Melikyan, director of marketing at the Van Cliburn Foundation. "People from all over the world are making plans to attend this unique event. August 29 will be the time for everyone to reserve seats at Bass Performance Hall, and to become part of a musical journey like no other."

Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on June 7, and brought onstage, where they will receive medals from the legendary Van Cliburn himself. All six finalists of the Cliburn 2009 will receive a prize package consisting of three years of managed concert tours with a combined total of more than 300 concert engagements valued at over $1,000,000, as well as cash awards and other prizes. Please visit www.cliburn.org for complete details on the top prizes, as well as numerous others that will be awarded
