WRR MUSIC LOUNGE, ONE ARTS PLAZA, DALLAS
TO BE BROADCAST LIVE ON 101.1FM

FORT WORTH, TEXAS, September 24, 2009- Recently named Keyboard Instrumentalist of the Year at the ECHO Preis Awards in Munich, pianist Gabriela Montero will give her Cliburn at the Bass debut on October 6, 2009. Miss Montero will play several classical standards, in addition to showcasing her unique improvisational talents.

The renowned Venezuelan pianist will perform works by Brahms and Ginastera during the first half of her recital program, while the second half will be devoted to improvisations based on themes suggested by audience members. With the encouragement of her mentor, Martha Argerich, and to her audience's continued delight, Miss Montero has reclaimed the art of keyboard improvisation-a phenomenon popular in the Classical period, but recently taken up almost exclusively by jazz musicians.

The New York Times has written that "Montero's playing has everything: crackling rhythmic brio, subtle shadings, steely power...soulful lyricism...unsentimental expressivity."

Gabriela Montero records for EMI/Angel and her recordings have been released to international acclaim. Her CD Bach and Beyond was awarded the Klassik-ohne-Grenzen award and the Choc de la musique de l'année award from Le Monde de la Musique. Her recording, Baroque, which was devoted entirely to improvisation, received five-star reviews from BBC Music Magazine and Classic FM

Alberto Ginastera Sonata No. 1, Op. 22
