PIANIST GARRICK OHLSSON TO PERFORM AS PART OF CLIBURN AT THE BASS
SERIES, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2009 AT 7:30PM.
MR. OHLSSON WILL AUTOGRAPH HIS 2008 GRAMMY-AWARD-WINNING DISC AND
OTHER RECORDINGS FOR AUDIENCE MEMBERS IN THE LOBBY FOLLOWING THE
PERFORMANCE.
FORT WORTH, TEXAS October 20, 2009 - The Winner of the
1970 Chopin International Piano Competition, pianist Garrick
Ohlsson will lead the Van Cliburn Foundation's celebration of the
200th birthday of Frédéric Chopin. Mr. Ohlsson will perform the
composer's Twenty-four Preludes, Op. 28, drawing on the
interpretation represented on his recently completed sixteen-disc
set of the complete works of Chopin for the Hyperion label. In
addition, his recital program includes Brahms' Variations and Fugue
on a Theme by Handel, Op. 24 and Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 13 in
E-flat Major. The Beethoven piano sonata appears on Volume 7 of
Garrick Ohlsson's growing catalogue of Beethoven sonata recordings
for Bridge Records (BRIDGE 9265).
Garrick Ohlsson's recent American orchestral engagements included
appearances with the Atlanta, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and St.
Louis symphonies as well as the National Symphony in Washington DC.
He also performed with the San Francisco Symphony conducted by
Music Director Michael Tilson-Thomas in the Bay Area and on tour to
Los Angeles and Seattle. Abroad, his many engagements included a
recital at London's Wigmore Hall and concerts with the Salzburger
Mozarteum, the Halle Orchestra and the Deutsche Symphony in
Berlin.
The Washington Post wrote "Ohlsson's virtuosity and rhythmic
control were simply stunning."
