JON NAKAMATSU, PIANO AND JON MANASSE, CLARINET
BASS HALL
TUESDAY, APRIL 13, 2010
7:30 p.m.

FORT WORTH, TEXAS, March 22, 2010:

When popular American clarinetist Jon Manasse and 1997 Cliburn gold medalist Jon Nakamatsu first shared a concert stage five years ago, the two became best of friends while rapidly developing a reputation as one of the premier chamber duos touring today.

Brilliant virtuosity and refined artistry can be claimed by both charismatic soloists, but it's the electric chemistry resulting from the duo's shared musical understanding that characterizes their seamless partnership.

Their Cliburn Concerts debut features a Brahms Sonata for Clarinet and Piano from the duo's well-received recording for harmonia mundi USA in 2008. The New York Times writes, "Jon Nakamatsu's contribution is just as important as Mr. Manasse's, and their partnership is complete. Mr. Nakamatsu's playing is as meltingly beautiful as Mr. Manasse's."

Cliburn Concerts Program:
BRAHMS Sonata for Clarinet and Piano in E-flat, Op. 120, no. 2
VON WEBER Grand Duo Concertante in E-flat Major, J. 204
CHOPIN Andante Spianato et Grande Polonaise Brillante, Op. 22 (Mr. Nakamatsu)
KOVACS Hommage a Manuel de Falla (Mr. Manasse)
NOVACEK Four Rags for Two Jons

This is the closing performance for the Cliburn at the Bass 2009-2010 season. The Star-Telegram proclaimed "Cliburn at the Bass...one of the best classical concert series in the country," and this performance is guaranteed to live up to that reputation.
