Fort Worth, Texas, February 16, 2011:

Pianist Stephen Hough will take the stage of Bass Performance Hall as part of the Cliburn Concerts series on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. in his exclusive Metroplex appearance this season. Widely regarded as one of the most distinctive pianists of his generation, Mr. Hough will captivate audiences with a program featuring some of the most impressive works for piano solo. Tickets for this concert are available for purchase through Central Ticket Office at 800.462.7979 or online at Cliburn.org.

The Washington Post describes Mr. Hough as "a virtuoso who begins where others leave off." A consummate and probing musician, he is a frequent recitalist and has appeared with most major European and American orchestras and as a guest artist at festivals such as Salzburg, Mostly Mozart, Aspen, Ravinia, and Tanglewood. Mr. Hough's recent performances of Franz Liszt's monumental warhorse, the Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-flat, with the Budapest Festival Orchestra have earned rave reviews: "Hough is a pianist with virtuosity to spare, even when it comes to Liszt, and he put those pyrotechnics to good use supplying rare lightness, wit, and musical depth" (The Telegraph).

The recipient of many awards and accolades, Mr. Hough took top prize at the Naumburg Festival in 1983 and was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship in 2001. He has recorded more than 50 albums for the Hyperion label which have garnered numerous awards and several Grammy Award® nominations. Most recently, he was honored with the Royal Philharmonic Society Award for best instrumentalist following his acclaimed BBC Proms performances of all four piano concertos by Tchaikovsky.

Mr. Hough currently serves as a visiting professor at London's Royal Academy of Music and also holds the position of International Chair of Music at the Royal Northern College in Manchester. In addition to his active performing schedule, Hough is a noted composer of numerous vocal and instrumental works.
